NO!! I wouldnt recommend those companies to anyone. They do not help you and will ruin your credit. They start by telling you to pay the fee to start the program, normally a few hundred $ , then they tell you that they will contact your credit card companies and arrange a payment plan. In most cases the company doesnt have to accept the plan, and even if they do it will take a few months for them to do so, leaving your bills unpaid for several months. Which will then place you in collections. (I work at a collection agency, and they do not have to accept the credit solutions monthly offer.) Also when you sign up for one of those programs, it goes on your credit that you did so, (my husband signed up once and when we went to buy our house the loan company informed us the credit solutions is about the same of having a bankrupcy on our credit) Your best bet is to call your credit card companies your self and work out an agreement on repayment. Your cards will all be closed in the fact you will not be able to use them, but most companies will allow you to set up a payment plan, in most cases that is less then what their min payment is. If you have more questions feel free to email me.

Question by INFLGal: How do I fix credit report when the credit card company is no longer in business?
I am in the process of trying to buy a home and recently reviewed my credit report. I noticed that one account was still reported as opened with a balance.

About 4 years ago, I had a credit card account with Conseco Greentree Financial services. The balance was sold off to another company when Conseco went bankrupt. I’ve since paid off the balance. I called the company that serviced the loan and they said there’s nothing they can do since they don’t appear anywhere on my credit report.

How cn I get this fixed? I can get Conseco to fix this since they are no longer in existence! HELP!!

You dispute it with the credit reporting agency. It is up to then to reverify the claim. If they cannot then request that it be removed from your report.

To quote the classic magazine salesman from the movie Office Space “That all depends”… While the removal of negative items from your credit report will almost always result in an increase in your credit score, there is a method that works better. Here’s why. Adding positive accounts is actually more effective at improving your credit score (in the short term) than removing negative one. Unfortunately, few consumers or credit repair companies know this. One of the biggest problems with trying to get approved for new credit is that you need to “have” credit in order to be approved. This causes a sort of catch 22. How does one “get” credit if no one will give them credit because they don’t have any credit to begin with? A vicious cycle indeed, but a real one. However, if you have someone you can use a cosigner this is NOT a problem. Simply have them cosign on the new credit application for you. If you don’t have a cosigner, read on. Contrary to popular belief (or what myfico and credit repair companies would like you to believe), the largest factor in building a solid foundation for your credit score comes down to two credit scoring factors: 1.) The “High Credit Limit
