Most people do not know that they have rights guaranteed to them by the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and debt collectors knowingly and habitually break these laws in order to frighten them into paying. IT IS NOT AGAINST THE LAW TO OWE MONEY! Do not allow yourself to be lied to (example: “You’re going to go to jail if you don’t pay this” is one of their favorites!) or treated without the dignity you deserve. KNOW YOUR RIGHTS UNDER THE FDCPA: Collectors can NOT call you before 8 am or after 9 pm Collectors can NOT threaten to have you arrested or charged with a crime if you dont pay Collectors can NOT continue to call after you have indicated you want them to stop (record your conversation with them, tell them you ARE recording it, write the date and time down in a journal, and follow up with a certified letter stating they may no longer call.) Collectors can NOT call friends, family members or colleagues repeatedly in order to get you to pay (they may call your acquaintances ONCE in order to track you down and may NOT mention that you owe money or give ANY information that would lead someone to believe that they are attempting to collect a debt.) But most people do only pay the minimum payment. When i first got credit cards in college, I spent on them not realizing that the $15 minimum payment could grow to a $30 minimum payment.
with credit, all you can do is spend more than you have. Its always true whether its just a clothing purchase, or if its a car loan or a home loan. YOU ARE IN DEBT and minimum payments are all you’re likely to make.
That’s why I paid all my shit off.

Here’s how you start to fix all these problems
Everyone.
Take that credit card and cut it up.
Call them and cancel the account.
Dont just stop useing it because they are working on a new penalty charge for “NOT USING” your card.
they will crap themselves when 40 million people call them up.. Then they wont have a choice but to fix it. Its as easy as that…

Credit is a bunch of #’s in a data base and its monopoly money…this company i mentioned below uses fed laws that the gov doesnt want us americans to know about and wipes out the debt (well technically the bureaus do the wiping
) …they charged me less than a 1000 for a whole years work, although it took my first set of reports to things deleted!! So if anyone needs real help eliminating debt and incase i forgot to mention they also protect your assets from law suits..call 347-492-4014 
Credit is not “real money” 1st off and 2nd Settlemnt is a huge scam!! What ever u dont get to settle for is considered taxable income by the IRS and youll get a 1099 c form at the end of the year!! This company (debtcrisissolutionsdotcom) opened my eyes to the truth about credit and also after being decieved by these disgusting scams like cosolidation and settlemnt i am blessed to have found a real and honost comp who legally eliminates debt and restored my credit without me paying a fortune!

The way I look at it is this, we loaned the banking industry 700 billion, I hadn’t received timely payments back so I’m declaring that they are late so I’m upping the interest to 30% (legal in my state). I believe that equates to an extra 210 billion in interest per month. Its been a few months now so their debt is really skyrocketing out of control. I’m sending this to collections.

had a bunch of dept.5 cards.25grand worth.Stopped paying on them for over a year.Some of them settled for a fraction of the dept.Some just gave up.I pay cash for everything now with no stress.

I don’t see that collection agencies work. I owed close to 20 grand and they never got 1 cent out of me. I filed bankruptcy and my credit is decent now.

most collection agents need anger management. If their day has been that bad that they need to harass then it’s time for a new job. No sweat off my back, it’s why they’re stuck in an office playing predator at 7pm & not with a significant other or family, I feel sorry for em.
I’m a debt collector and I sleep like a baby at night. While I don’t support abusive or illegal tactics, I have no sympathy for anyone whose greed writes checks their ass can’t cash. 100 years ago you got thrown in jail for not paying your bills, so don’t boo-hoo to me over a few phone calls. Grow up, pay what you owe and quit expecting the smart and mature among us to foot the bill for your laziness.

@lovey10405 I for one have no problem ignoring your calls if I have more important things to do with what little money I have. Calling my parents house my employer and calling me 99 times a day not only annoys me its really ourright nasty! Don’t assume that because someone has debt that they are just lazy no goods. Just cant afford to pay you 700 when I got rent due.
@lovey10405 Understand that when people “run” or get “shitty” attitudes is because they have had someone come at them harshly trying to collect a debt that its obvious they cant pay at the moment. If they did then you would not be calling them. And despite what you believe some people just dont have the money. They may not have a job and what little money they may have has to go towards gas, light, water, kids, medicine if they have a health condition.
Mr. Ramsey is right. I have always used prepaid cards cuz the only person i have to pay is myself..

In UK Debt Collection is heavily regulated in terms of Data Protection Laws and procedure. ive worked in Mortgage Reposession for 4 years ive never heard anything like this here. The idea is to come to an arrangement with the debtor and TALK about there account and what they can do, if they can pay great. If they cant then i advise them what the procedure is.
Debt collection is a form of ADMIN thats it ! So to see people use it as an ego trip is worrying !!
I own a collection agency and give away iPods and flat screen tvs for people who pay on their debts. We reward paying !!! We do not harass We are even looking to order ipads for the larger debts that pay
0:55- The reason there is no agency out there to deal with these debt collectors from committing these acts that are against the law is because they are most likely run by agency that started this mess- the Federal Reserve.

Wow, I’m glad you throw us ALL into one large group. I own an small agency in NH and I would never steal from someone’s checking account. Right now, I have on average 3-5 people a week that give me their bank and checking info and have not received one complaint of more being taken out then previously agreed upon. And frankly, if I did take out more than I was allowed to, I could get sued and have the AG looking at me, which is something I don’t need.
There’s definitely a debtors’ revolution brewing out there. Just got done reading the new e-book, “Stopping the Calls: Guerilla Tactics to Fight Back Bill Collectors.” My phone barely rings anymore!
STOP paying your debt, (we) the people do have the power: just stop paying (and playing their game). It would be interesting to see who’s got who by the balls, it’s all just a rigged little poker game,…isn’t it?
